"How I Became a Pirate" is a great book to use when implementing a reader's theater. The story has several parts (the little boy, the head pirate, other pirates) and has plenty of dialogue. The story could be broken up into these "parts" and the students would perform their parts as a reader's theater performance.

If you can get past the constant, casual racism and such pulp-sillyness as the over-use of the phrase "iron-thewed hero", this book is filled with fantastic, two-fisted action. Plus you can read it in about 15 minutes.
