This is one of my favorite books. It's a fictional account of the slow movement towards change during a pivotal point in human evolution, told through the experiences of an orphaned girl destined to be the ancestor of modern humankind. The rest of the series (perhaps with the exception of "The Valley of the Horses") turns into cheesey romance fiction, unfortunately, but this first book is historically interesting and heart warming (no corny romance, I promise!!!).
Maybe one of my favorite Nicholas Sparks books. Surprise, HAPPY ending! There is just a lot of goodness (along with the heart wrenching Nicholas Sparks goodness) in the book. It's been a long time since I've read a non-lds book that the characters come to rely on God in their trials. Good stuff. I'm just sad I have to see the movie now but only because it has miley sirus in it and if I'm honest the main girl in the book is a bit obnoxious already.
