I was first introduced to the Dresden world several years ago when the Sci-Fi Channel adaptation aired on TV and I had been interested in looking into the series ever since. However, with my mind on other things when entering a bookstore, I never got around to picking the first novel up until recently before Butcher's latest in the series, Ghost Stories, was released by way of a convenient display in the local B&N. While there are flaws (exemplified by other reviewers so I won't go into them here), the book was still very enjoyable to me. It had some wit, it had some grit, and it had moments that were just really good, stupid fun. This series isn't going to be for everyone, but you never know until you check it out. I know I'm glad I did.
I love Anne Lamott and she can do little wrong in my eyes. And I enjoyed this book, heard her read from it, found many moments that made me laugh and think. Compared with her other books, however, this is not her strongest. I found it easier to set down and not quite as gripping. I recommend Plan B and Traveling Mercies over this one...
