I gave it 5 stars because if you've read all the books that came before it, you might have a stronger understanding of what is going on and a sense of empathy for Sookie. If you haven't read the previous books, you might think it is more of a 3.7 -7. Sookie finds out even more about the magical world that just a few short years ago seem like fiction and fairy tales. She finds out more about her family history wasn't how it appeared to be. She has grown from an innocent pure southern ball to a walking death sentence. No matter how much she tries, it doesn't seem like she is able to climb out of the ever growing deep open grave she is in.
