This book is a lot of fun. But it frustrates me a little because I can't read all of the words. And I love the front and I love the back. I just love this book.
I wasn't sure if I'd like it. I don't usually, when there'sn't a 'bad guy' to defeat. Loved the ending, mostly. (Great begginning, too, for that matter). Not too perfect, but resolved everything nicely. I thought Brian went from "jerk" to "nice" a little fast, but that was all right. I also liked how DJ didn't over explain things, only mentioning them when it was necessary. She also didn't spend too much time complaining or wallowing in self-pity. Oh, she spent her own time at it, but not writing/reading time. Neat idea. I liked the family problems, and people trying new things. The biggest whatever-you-call-it for me in the book was how lazy it made me feel. Here's DJ, sixteen, practically running the farm, giving up school and social life and fun to help her father. She could be a role model, except that I'd never run in a sports bra, or try out for football...more likely to find myself cleaning the barn just-for-fun or accidentally nearly breaking a guy's nose. She's a fun character. Read the book.
