This is my favorite book of all times. It does seem like a book for younger children, but it is so good that ive read it probably over 20 times. It makes me feel like Im actually there back in the day of plantations in the south. The characters rimind me of people I know. And the reaction I get from the suspense is the same and higher every time I reead it. I recomend this book to every one not just kids.
I couldn't resist the sales pitch as this was a free Kindle download from Amazon. It was a very quick read, though a bit short on plot and characterisation (beyond the two main characters)it was well written. There was a bit too much sex for my liking - a lot more UST wold have been hotter and the interesting issues of homophobia and racism never really developed at all. I could accept the that the main character, Chay, succumbed easily to his new found sexual preference, since he was obviously very open minded, but the initial hostility of his mother and his best friend was resolved far to easily. It made the story feel rushed and under developed. I would probably read another book by the same author if I was in the mood for something qick and unchallenging, but I wouldn't seek it out.
