I remembered reading this in high schhol and wanted to re-read it in France. The dispassionate and existential Mersault always perplexes me even until the end. A great book, always a good read. Have read both translations now and genuinely appreciate the directness of Ward's translation better.

I'm learning about sorrow. The empty feeling in my gut that must be something familiar to just about everyone by how this book moves me. I'm learning something but it is sad and sorrowful learning.
