As a cyborg, Cinder is considered a secondary citizen on earth. Her mechanic skills are exploited by her stepmother and she can see no way out of her miserable life. While working one day the prince comes to get his robot fixed and he and Cinder become friends of a sort. The king dies of a horrible plague and the evil Lunar Queen comes to visit and persuade the prince to marry her and join their people. Cinder gets caught in the middle of everything, helping find a cure for the disease, fixing the prince's robot but avoiding his invitation to be his special guest at the ball, trying to escape from her family, all while trying to avoid the Lunar Queen on desperate advisement from the doctor researching the plague's cure. She was bound to fail at one of these objectives... I always enjoy fairy tale retellings, especially to see what aspects of a story are kept and which are discarded or changed. Cinder is a particularly unique retelling as the prince knew Cinder as a person from the beginning, (view spoiler) My biggest disappointment in this book is that...it isn't over. (view spoiler) I guess I'll have to read the next book sooner than later...
