It was good but about 150 pages too long (in fact, I practically read the book in real-time, it took me so long!). I think she did a great job with Emma, she is such a "ding-dong" as my friend put it, but she is still lovable. Emma, like all of Austen's protagonists, provides us with ample opportunity for introspection, and the book is full of wit and good humor. I liked that it all resolved itself satisfactorily; it seems that all her books end with the same happily-ever-after so it is how believable you feel about getting there and how good you feel about it happening. Austen scores very well on both those counts; the middle was just agonizingly slow.
