I didn't find this book all that interesting at all. I'm a recovering addict and I still didn't enjoy this memoir. He seems so selfish and egotistical. The co-dependency admittance of fault was the only part I enjoyed. However, he betrays his real thoughts when he does on a rant about ecstasy. Drew goes off on propaganda about how much it damages the brain, blah, blah. It wasn't so much what he said (some of which was very ignorant) but how he said it. In short, I just couldn't stomache Drew's ego enough to enjoy this book.

I really expected and wanted to love this book. I had plenty of time to sit and enjoy a hefty read but it was too heavy and depressing. I had a hard time believing the central love story and some of the more unbelievable survival stories. I may have read one too many stories of hardship and deprivation in the WWII camps. I did learn more about Hungary's role in the war, which was interesting, having visited Budapest. Our tours of Dachau and Auschwitz left me feeling the same way as the book...it's all too horrific to comprehend.
