I really enjoyed this biographical novel, so much so that I feel compelled to revisit Walls' autobiography, The Glass Castle, which I did not like in the least. Walls' grandmother is the main character and what a character she is! It is very interesting to consider how this woman, a strong and determined person if there ever was one, produced a daughter that was such a failure as a mother in turn, as depicted in Walls' autobiography. A fascinating look at life during the Depression and Dust Bowl eras that isn't the typical story and also a thought-provoking depiction of how a person's strengths might also be their greatest weakness as a parent. Well-written with great voice.
