Is there a clearer picture in your head of why we struggle through life and love and balance and dysfunction than what Kundera paints for us in "The Unbearable Lightness of Being." He reminds me constantly of why we breathe and move ourselves into pain. Why we resort to self destruction to attain comfort. Kundera does not limit himself to the historical precipice on which this story is mounted, but instead finds a way to channel the celebration of life and loss in a very real and very relatable way. In the same way we force ourselves to laugh in the face of our gravest moments, Kundera is encouraging us to embrace lightness in our lives, despite the staggering pressure. Life is unflinching and uncompromising, and sometimes can really fucking bum you out. But you get a few drops of honey now and then that can really sweeten out the sour.
