Ray Kapteyn Kapteyn itibaren Fatehgarh Sahib
I read this a while ago, thought I'd give it another go since it's been so long! An extremely raw tale in which the main character, in a coma, switches between flashbacks of his childhood and career as a hooligan and hallucinations of African safaris. Less drug-related than some of Irvine Welsh's other work, this novel is fantastic in its brutality (that sounds kind of strange but...). Welsh always does a great job painting realistic, often harsh and sordid worlds for his characters, and this is no different. And upon reading it a second time, yikes. I forgot how intense this novel gets. Not my favorite Irvine Welsh book, but it's right up there.
