2007 Newbery Medal Winner As a story, this one wasn't very impressive. Not much actually happened in it, and the entire plot was revealed on the back of the book. I would give it two stars if I didn't enjoy the author's language so much. I liked that Lucky had a mean gland and other glands for this and that, and I felt that she thought the way a real child would think. I also liked the scene when Lucky and Lincoln put "graffiti" on a sign, turning "Slow Children at Play" into "Slow: Children at Play." I make fun of those signs every time I drive past one, so that part made me laugh.
This book is 419 pages long; Part Six is only 30 pages long. But Part Six was enough to make me glad I read the whole, tedious rest of the book. The beginning and the ending were also good, thank goodness, so it's actually only about 250 horribly tedious pages. If I were you, I'd just read THE JOKE - still my favorite Kundera. (Oh, but Part Six is lovely.)
Shara Azod is great, she keep the action and love right at the top. I trying to read everything she has written. This author can not put them in paperback fast enough for me. I learn that of all the romance novels I own and read, Ms Azod is one of the best.
