It was so good to revisit one of my favorites from childhood. I'm thinking this may not be the last one...

I really enjoyed this book. How best to describe it? Well it involves the following: the end of the world: creatures from myth, fantasy and nightmares; martial arts, unrequited love; requited love; love lost; love found; hard science; an examination of political ideologies; ninjas, a coming of age story; military action reminiscent of the Dirty Dozen; an in-depth analysis of friendship; and, oh, yes, mimes. That's right mimes. Don't let that deter you, I really enjoyed the mimes and I'm as surprised about that as you are. The short synopsis of the story is that it is the story of two friends who are forced to save the world after most governments make it "go away" with the use of a weapon that causes all matter to lose its internal coding and therefore, cease to exist. As one might guess, there are complications. Written with a wit and humor reminiscent of Douglas Adams (the author is a Brit) this is one of my favorite reads over the last few years. Not to sound too cliche, but I laughed, I cried, it is destined to be the box-office smash of the summer. Okay, that was very cliche, but this book does make you laugh and also tugs at your heart strings. Most importantly it makes you think . . . about the world around you and the people in it, especially those you love. Bottom line, read the book. You won't be disappointed.

I have to say that this is one of my favorite of the In Death series. I love the personal aspects of the series and unfortunately because one of their own is murdered there are plenty of them here. Morris's gf Coltraine is murdered and it's up to Eve to find her killer and to help Morris get through this hard time. Morris is a great character and I hope he is featured more in future books. Max Ricker plays a dominant role in this book even locked in jail, he still has a lot of connections. The killer's connection was unexpected even though I suspected this person from the start. Also in the entry is Louise's bridal shower which is held at Eve's house. I find these normal events for most so hilarious seen through Eve's eyes. This book is so good in every aspect and I am always pleasantly surprised after 25 books they are still fresh and great.
