Recommended at the BYU Symposium. I am almost done with this book, and just noticed that BYU suggested it at the symposium I went to, which surprises me. The characters and world are so much fun and I completely enjoyed the first half. Then things happened that bothered me a lot, especially because this is a young adult book and it paints such a horrible view of marriage. Why is marriage seen as such a confining burden? Why would non-commital sex be more joyful? This just rubs me the wrong way, down to my core, so it is hard for me to enjoy the rest of the book. I don't think I will be keeping this book. However, like I said, the characters and world are very fun and I enjoy that part very much. So it was a good and much needed distraction from a stressful time right now, but I still don't think I'm ready to try to balance fun books into my life right now. I can either read a book for a couple of days straight and ignore my kids and become mean mom, or I can ignore the books on my shelf and try to focus on the family. I just can't figure out how to put a good book down!
The left and right fight over the founding fathers. This is a great discussion about how neither have it right. Very interesting read.
