I have never read anything like this before. Marcus creates his own universe complete with physics, religion, architecture, etc. The prose is often very surreal and I decided early on that I wouldn't try to make sense of it. If your willing to just go for the ride and enjoy the language, it is quite enjoyable.
This book is very well written and thought provoking. I like the overall philosophy of the author. However, I really needed more specific advice on how to apply the theory to real life. After reading the book, I was left with so many questions, and way too much guilt that I could be a better parent but don't know how!!!
I haven't gotten to socks yet. But someday soon.
I read this when I was younger and enjoyed it much more than this last read. The series of weird events seems choppy now compared to reading Vonnegut, Robbins, et al, and makes it hard to stay in the story. When I was younger I think I appreciated the oddness of everything in the book more because it was definitively different and harder to read than other stories. Still, I think it's a great book to read when you're younger. Just might be best to stay there. (see: Alf, transformers)
on the all time favorite list. just beautiful.
