Ovid's Metamorphoses reads like a who's who in classical mythology. But even those not interested in the historical side can enjoy David Slavitt's translation. He treats the themes of longing, desire, trickery, and human error with a cheeky wit. One possible drawback is that the book is formatted like the original poems, so sometimes the stories can completely run together. There were a few times where I had to reread pages to separate characters.

I bought this book at the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC. It's excellent and truly well written. Again, every time I read about the Holocaust I learn something new and more horrific than I could ever imagine. Still I feel it's important to never forget and remember.
