This wasn't the most exciting conclusion to the Dark Ages novel series. The vast majority of the book played out as a love affair between Myca Vykos and his Koldun lover Illias (Or some such name). It was most certainly building toward a climax, but it took far, far too long to get there and by the time it was reached I had lost all interest in the book. It's a shame that the series ended with a proverbial whimper instead of a bang.
I bought this book mainly to learn about the quants profiled in the book. I thought Patterson did a good job providing a history of quantitative finance and while he doesn't cover the origins of the entire financial crisis or why it happened I think he tells a good story about the industry and helps the reader understand the culture of some of the people running the largest hedge funds in the world. Patterson did jump around a lot which, at times, made it hard to follow but didn't stop me from enjoying the book and finding it an entertaining read.
