** spoiler alert ** For some reason it was hard for me to get through Catching Fire and I put it away for a few months before I finished it up. I remembered why I loved the series to begin with: the characters and the refreshing feeling of reading something that hasn't been done before. Mockingjay is no different, except here we see the characters fall apart over and over again and almost give up their will to live on multiple occasions. I will most likely reread Mockingjay to catch things I missed the first time around. This book is so action packed I felt myself skimming in order to get to the dialogue. It is kind of disappointing that their weren't that many character interactions, more so whats going on in Katniss's head. When I finished this book I couldn't help but feel emotionally dry- like the ending didn't even matter despite the fact that she ended up with who I was rooting for the entire time. I'm glad there was some resolution, but the characters who died and the characters who stayed away leave me with so many questions. Collins...why would you kill of the character who we grew to love after he shed his pretty boy act?! I wish his death at least got more emotional rise out of the characters, or he died in a completely different way. In terms with Katniss, I have no problem with how she spiraled down and up. I think it was needed for her to have weaknesses that didn't just go away with some fierce otherworldly intervention. Katniss is a girl thrown into so much death and killing its no wonder she might want to sleep in a laundry closet or take morphling.
