I fought this book tooth and nail every time I read the plot synopsis. I strongly felt it was not an appropriate story line for kids. THEN, I read it. It is a glorious story and Gaiman deals deftly and gently with the issues of "child alone after family is murdered." It is well written, it is a GOOD story in the highest sense (destined to be a classic), and I was in tears when it was over. Recommended ages: 5th grade and up; for younger ages, I would preview it first.
