This is really one of my favorite and most memorable Bill Bryson books. I think what separates this book from others is that you really get to see Bryson when he's "out of his element." Rather than making snarky comments about local towns and himself, which can sometimes seem preachy and egotistic, Bryson spends most of his time huffing and puffing his way along the Appalachian Trail, with his unfit friend Katz. Hilarity ensues. Bryson does his own narration on the audio CD, which is, in my humble opinion, the only way to read his books!

Perhaps my alltime favorite character book. Holden Caufield - bless his heart. So grateful that he shared his world with us.
