This is one of those books that I have a very emotional attachment to. My mum used to read this to me as a bedtime story "when I was very young" I still have the old, battered, no cover books to this day, sitting on my bookshelf. I can quote almost all of the poems in this book and the "Now we are six" book. I love them, they are like old friends that have gone everywhere with me.

Great intro to modern Indian history. It's very well-written and reads like a novel.
