Good work of historical fiction. Also very addicting. Enjoy Steph!
I bought this book for my boyfriend because I thought it might add some fuel to our often-talked-about dream of taking a year off to travel the world, which it did. Only I think it affected me a lot more than it did him, as I can't seem to stop myself from researching budget airlines in India or looking at Craigslist postings in Buenos Aires. (Of course, if you know me and my love of travel planning, this is really not surprising.) Anyway, I'd say this is a must-read for anyone thinking about a trip like this...equal parts practical and inspirational, it's a good jumping-off point. Although I do have to admit, the frequency with which Potts mentions "road romances" had me longing to hear the story behind the story that I suspect was left out of this book...
I am pretty sure that this is the one when Jessica uses her best cheerleading kick to escape her kidnapper. I KNEW cheerleading would prove useful!
Great overview of how and what we eat and the societal implications of such.
I love Julia Alvarez's prose. She uses multiple voices to present various perspectives on time and people. I am often left thinking about her characters long after I am done. Though this book is no exception to that, I was less inspired by these characters, though probably found more to relate to. Their extraordinary nature was a bit more accessible and their flaws were less extraordinary as well. Definitely good read!
