I think I would give this a 3 1/2 stars. The story was interesting enough and the characters ok. Aoefie (pronounced Efa, where they get these names....) bugged me at times. She was a total girl... up one minute and down then next, happy one second, raging mad the next, I prefer a more even keeled temperment but... It took me about half way through the story to realize this wasn't taking place in modern times. It takes place in an alternate verison of history in the mid 1900s. There are modern aspects but the time line is earlier. Once i figured that out it helped. Some of the "things" in the story werent' explained very well so you were left wondering what exactly it was that they were so afraid of. I really enjoyed the latter half of the book where things started moving a long and the story got a little more fast paced, and some of the plot line was resolved. Total cliffhanger and the story is not resolved. Good Clean book.

Thought provoking- what happens if you try to change time and/or "fix" time? I really like the story because it was set in colonial time period- and the mystery of Roanoke Colony. I learned more about the colony than I had know before. It is a great series! Can't wait to read the next one!
