schecter is the best crime writer i know of. this book is very tightly written. however, it should be supplemented by viewing the recently released documentary on fish, which puts fish in a religious context that schecter misses. but if you want all the facts -- well written -- this is the book to get. hot peanut butter.

I love John Updike. His writing is just flawless. His observations are so minute and so familiar. You experience such an intimacy with the characters because he describes them with such close detail. Loved the portrayal of the burned out teacher- who gets to be the hero in the end. The end is actually so unrealistic- but I think its meant to be more symbolic anyway. So even though there is sort of a happy ending, it doesn't really ring true. But I could see them making a movie out of it. Maybe.
