Emerick has delivered a translation of the Quran that is much more approachable to the modern reader. Easy to read and filled with useful footnotes and commentary, it also gives a smattering of historical context that catches your interest. For example, I didn't know that Noah was also called Zoroaster by several subsequent civilizations. Although i think its important to familiarize yourself with a more archiac text that offers more perspective on the poetry and syntax of the Quran, this is a great book for someone looking to get to know the Quran to pick up. Its also not very big (i hear, since i have the kindle version this doesn't really matter:) so can be picked up and carried around with ease. Great to delve into when you want to refer something quickly or want a quick read of a chapter or two. I still haven't read the whole book, But the chapters i did read were well crafted and even divided into broad based subject matter in certain places.
