Hmmm. Bu kitap / çizgi roman hakkında ne söyleyeceğimi bilmiyorum. Bir yandan beklediğim gibi değil. Bunun aksiyon dolu tipik çizgi roman tarzı bir kitap olacağını düşündüm. Bulduğum şey, insanlık hakkında biraz daha meçhul bir ifadeydi. Moore aslında kitabın her yerinde alıntılanan "Kara Freighter Masalları" çizgi romanı hakkında bölümün sonunda bu mükemmel bir şekilde şöyle diyor: insani durum hakkında sık sık sapkın ve siyah renkli yorumlardan etkilenmişti. " Karar veremediğim şey itilmem veya büyülenmem. Bunun hafif bir çizgi roman olmadığı için hayal kırıklığına uğradım, çünkü okumak için havamda olan şey buydu, ancak kitabı ruh halime göre değerlendiremiyorum. I had my glowing review all done but technology thwarted me when I went to post it. This one is the complete 5 star package: compelling story, told in an interesting way, beautiful illustrations that propel the narrative and make it richer. His family members serve as the characters in this memoir of their experiences in Vietnam before the war and after their last minute escape to the US, and they are complex with just a few deft touches, but as each person recounts a part of the story, the narrative is not bogged down. The circular story made me want to immediately pick it back up again.

Book twelve of the school year: five stars. Pretty friggin' incredible. I don't think I've read a story that has grabbed my emotions so firmly (and the throttled them, slammed them against the wall, and stolen their girl scout cookies) in a long time. I was apprehensive and thought maybe my lack of Star Wars-y knowledge would hinder the enjoyment of the book, but not so much, no. Readable and actually better than I expected for a freebie on the kindle. The ending was a bit expected but definitely good for a holiday read.
