This book was recommended to me by some co-workers who said that it was assigned to them in their freshman (college) English course. Their reviews: "Gross!" "Creepy!" "Awesome!" "Disturbing!" Maybe I'm playing it cool here subconsciously, but I wasn't sold on the idea that this book was disturbing or gross. I personally don't think that "sideshow freaks" are that taboo of a topic. Even freaks engineered by their parents. Nor was the idea of human body mutilation very shocking. I don't know. We live in this weird, cynical age now, I find it increasingly more difficult to be shocked or disturbed by anything. That said, it was a thoroughly entertaining and fast read. Dunn has an accessible--even beautiful at times--style, and there's also some humor in Geek Love that I think most people would enjoy. Was it subversive or shocking? Maybe...? Meh.
