Fakes you into thinking it's the Count of Monte Cristo IN! SPACE! for a few minutes, then thinks better of it. Not a deep book, but it is a fun read, and Bester's vision of a future full of mega-corporations and rogue lone agents predates cyberpunk by a good thirty years. Hell, take out a few dated turns of phrase and you could almost pass this off as a modern story.

I'm adding an extra star because the author signed my copy. Ray Bradbury was a humble, beautiful human being and this is a very fine book--one that will last for a long time. People who give it a low rating probably don't realize how revolutionary this work of sci-fi dystopia was for its time. I'm rating books on Goodread's Worst Books of All Time List tonight and I'm shocked to see how many classics and how many truly good books are on this list. I guess it all goes to show that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Nice and light read. Maybe a bit rushed.
