This book didn't meet my expectations. I had a hard time getting used to Minot's writing style (though I totally understand why she chose to use run-ons, fragments and refrain from using punctuation frequently throughout the book). I felt the premise was good, but overall the story lacked any real substance and failed to deliver effective closure in many cases. The novel gives an accurate description of what one may experience when close to death, but it completely lacks rounded, likeable characters and a rich plot.
