Typical King. Awesome story, pitiful ending. Really fun and scary though.
My favorite Barbara Kingsolver book so far. She is such a wonderful tale-weaver and this is a sublime example of her ability.
Good book. Helped with mindset and preparedness. Good info about nutrition and exercise programs. I'm basically doing everything wrong is what this book is telling me. Have my work cut out for me.
What. A. Ride. This book has it all: thrills, intrigue, history, mystique, danger, love, psychosis, tricked out secret underground cave laboratories, a character who transforms into a hero. Oh, and zombies. What more could you ask for? I don't generally care for books that have zombies as the backdrop, becuase what I like about zombie books is the survival aspect. This book is more about how they got to be zombies in the first place, and the zombies are not the main focus - terrorists are. VERY good writing, compelling, and hard to put down. This is also one of those books where you wish you discover the series AFTER all of the books have been published, so there's no painful wait for the sequel.
Irving's first novel, it's a thoughtful look at friendship placed within a series of strange events. Very small in length and scope where Irving's concerned, but a very good read.
This is actually 3.5 stars for me. And it probably would be 4 if I'd read Running with Scissors first, because some of the information was out of the blue and very shocking because I didn't understand where it was coming from. However, it was still a very good book. It shows what a struggle sobriety is for every person who has to fight for it, and how it's a daily battle that must always be the #1 focus for that person. Looks like I'll be running to the library today so I can now read Running with Scissors!
This classic was actually read aloud to me and the rest of my 4th grade class by our teacher, Mrs. Moser. She would take 10 minutes out of class each day to read a chapter from Rawls' beloved young adult novel about a boy and his two dogs. What sticks out to me (apart from the well told tale) is the multiple times that our teacher broke down and sobbed as she read - especially at the end. It probably was one of the first times I was a witness to the power of literature to evoke such emotion. Though I will add that during those times when she cried, it was a bit awkward for our class...
