I didn't finish this book and I'm not planning on doing that anytime soon. The plot may be stale, the characters may have no depth at all, the hero may be the least interesting hero I've read about in a long time, the girl may whine too much but seriously, the writing style TAKES THE CAKE. What is wrong with this author? Cartography metaphors? what on earth?? Comparing people to maps is so inaccurate and misleading and completely out of the question! How can you describe a person's face according to a map? and honestly maps and cartography aren't exactly universal motifs and practices that all readers can relate to.. Please! who calls a chapter: "The Topography of guilt" or "T-O maps" ??? I just don't think that maps relate to people however, this author apparently disagrees and insists on milking the map factor, much to my annoyance. Ah, one more thing, Jacob..Excuse me, an Asian adopted goth rich guy all clad in black and a black trench coat with a scar on his face and baby sitting skills? There's A LOT wrong with this guy. Ok, so I get the Asian adopted part [the author thinks that now the girl can relate to someone who doesn't know where to belong either and other sappy stuff like that] but the goth part is BEYOND ME. Why do authors think that goth guys with eye liner, nail polish and piercings are attractive? They are not. They never will be. Seriously, I do not care to read about some guy who dresses up and takes the time to polish his nails black every morning and since I do not care to read about him then I sure as hell do not think I can like him anytime soon and if I don't like a romance novel's hero or a chick lit book's hero then why am I reading the book in the first place?
