This reminds me a lot of Wouk's "Winds of War" in that it follows several interlaced family stories (American, Welsh, Russian and English) through historical times. This book (958 pages) is the first of three in his Century Trilogy and covers WWI and the Russian Revolution. A very rewarding read.

finally got around to this one, after meaning to for years. very good story, excellent writing. very suspensful. excellent cd audio performance, once again, by Nick Podehl.
