Good fast diversion from cerebral reading.

This book is preachy and makes some pretty absurd claims towards the end, but overall I found it to be a good read. I agree with Mr. Harris on a lot of points, but don't really feel his evidence would convince anyone to change their viewpoints.

Low self esteem can devastate your dreams. Regardless of your abilities, if you don't have faith in yourself, nothing you do will ever seem good enough. David Black, in 'Encouraging the Writer' by Serena Yates, suffers from a severe case of insecurity. He is constantly doubting himself and expecting others to do the same. He is miserable, but lacks the courage to change. He will not let anyone know how he feels and assumes that even if someone did know, no one would care. What David needs to help him overcome this obstacle is to find someone who loves him, recognizes his worth and encourages him to have more faith in himself. I liked David, but have to admit I felt a certain amount of frustration with him for putting himself down all the time. I never gave up on him though. Instead of being secure, his true self was obscured by a constant cloud of self doubt. As often happens with people lacking in self confidence, he underestimated himself constantly and had difficulty making decisions on almost everything. Finally, with the right kind of encouragement from his lover, Torin, David began to see himself as others saw him and started to react appropriately. It was gratifying to watch David evolve from the wallflower he was in the beginning, into the self assured person he became. When his self confidence bloomed, he was unstoppable. Torin Macpatrick is a talented theatre director, successful, but he was still looking for something more meaningful. When he and David meet, Torin wastes no time in pursuing him. Torin's love and nurturing bring David out of his shell; he finally begins to realize that he isn't the boring, untalented klutz he'd always assumed himself to be. “Ain't love grand?” 'Encouraging the Writer' is a charming story of how love can change everything. I loved the characters who endeared themselves to me. Serena took extra care creating a couple who meshed together extremely well--David being unassertive and introverted and Torin, secure and outgoing. David needed to be encouraged to write and Torin just happened to need a writer. Between the two, they made an invincible pair. Their romance intensifies in record speed, but when it's right, why waste time? David and Torin's lovemaking is exceedingly sensual and intense, leaving little doubt that these men are meant for each other. ‘Encouraging the Writer' is the third book of the New Horizons series and may be read independently. However, to get the most enjoyment out of the story, it's best to read book one: 'Rescuing the Librarian' and book two: 'Discovering the Actor', all of which are equally enjoyable.
