Lethem is an absolute genius. There is a scene in this book about when the song "Play That Funky Music White Boy" came out that I always think about whenever I hear that song or talk to white friends who grew up in the hood.

Making writing poetry as a form of self-expression is a must in my life. This book gave me many more outlets to inspire and share the love of poetry.
