I made a second attempt to read this book and I couldn't put it down. The whole series is like crack on a page.

This book was a quick read; I got through it in about two days. Steiner writes her memoir in a very straightforward manner. Her story struck a chord with me because I went through something similar myself many years ago. There are some inconsistencies in the story that are never explained toward the end of the story (like why her father, who is a lawyer, does not assist her in finding a divorce attorney, or why her father gives $1000 to her ex-husband with which to retain his own attorney)...but her story drew me in and it was reassuring to read about someone else who lived through abuse, and came out the other side to find a happy ending.

Maybe it's my own bias, but I just didn't feel like Card wrote this character (an African-American boy in LA) believably.
