Everybody compares it to Jane Austen and it is set in the same time period, but I think the author is trying to accomplish something different. It isn't as much of a political or social commentary. I enjoyed the way magic affected the ladies and how "woman's work" was incorprated into the world. So much magic is wizards battling over continents, this is a tiny, intimate portrait of how magic weaves into people's lives. I enjoyed it.
