I read this book more than six years ago, and I still remember it with frightening clarity. Everything in this book is tightly woven and smart (as I said in a previous review of Donnelly's other work.) I not only cheered on the main character and sympathized with the layered experiences of her troubled family, but bit my nails down to the bone following the murder mystery in the background. There's just so much to love about this book-from the word of the day, the cloying pain our heroine feels as she goes through her young life, her learning to love and understand how love can be both a blessing and a curse. I can only hope my memory begins to fade so I can read it over again anew.
