Initially, I didn't like this book. I was actually tempted to give up on it but am glad I finished it, as the second half read much better than the first half did. There are some aspects of it that make it hard to take, and it is somewhat more emotionally draining than your usual run of the mill thriller. However, the characters are well developed (man I loved to hate that mom) and there is definitely more depth to the book than what initially meets the eye. I'd be hesitant to recommend this to anyone going through anything emotionally trying themselves, as the physical and emotional trauma that the main character experiences is a lot to take. Stevens is a promising author - I'll be interested to see what the future holds for her writing.
