I had tried reading this book, the first of the "His Dark Materials" trilogy, a while back but couldn't get into it. I kept hearing how good it was so I tried the audio version, which is more of a radio play than a simple narration, complete with a large cast of actors. The author himself is the narrator, and he is quite good. I'm really excited to listen to the next volume, The Subtle Knife, and I couldn't believe the story ended where it did.

Wow- this was a tough read for me. Even though the author broke it down into simple terms, the concepts were mind blowing. This is not an easy beach read, unless you have the time to sit and think and ponder what Green is describing. When you give the book the time to really think about it, it opens up a whole world you may never have thought about. Fascinating, and much easier to read than Steven Hawking's "A Brief History of Time."
