I couldn't get past the first chapter of this pretentious, over-written, "literary" novel. No matter how much education the author may have, he commits the first error of bad writers - he TELLS, rather than SHOWS, the reader because he's so full of himself and his own knowledge that he has to sneak it in every little corner of the narrative. I just hate books like this - flat, contrived, and utterly boring.
