This book was well written and the family's unnecessary busy-ness made me cringe. That is the opposite of what I want.
There are occasionally very graphic portions of this book that are very startling in the way the narrator treats them -- his numbness and distance from events in his own life come across as something of a blase attitude to terrible abuse and mistreatment. At the same time, his sense of humor captures a sense that in spite of a traumatic childhood, he survived with aplomb. An intriguing, thoughtful story presented by a narrator with a unique voice.
