The ending wrapped up a bit too quickly for my taste but the opening scene to this book was frankly one of the best I've read, it was funny/awkward and scandalous. The leading man was very vulnerable at times and it pleasantly surprised me. And what a sweetheart of a sister Hope has! I hope we hear more of her in the next book (which looks to be a terrific story!).
** spoiler alert ** Three stars for Wuthering Heights because the story was compelling and the narrative voice was strong. Other than that I found the book miserable; the characters were perhaps the most wretched and hateful I've ever encountered. I was so satisfied when Catherine died halfway through and would have been ecstatic to see Heathcliff dispatch himself immediately after. Alas. Having said that, I found that the neat and happy ending did mitigate the horror somewhat. I'm sure that I'm missing the point entirely and if anyone would like to explain to me why this is considered such a romantic book when it contains neither love nor romance I would be happy to listen (although I didn't read it for the romance). As I said, the story itself was compelling and I respect the skill of any writer who can make me react so passionately.
