when i first read this i didn't quite "get it". he seemed to extreme, too radical, what was his problem? (the nation of islam rhetoric was especially difficult to deal with) nevertheless, upon subsequent readings i have been able to see the human side of the man, and appreciate the politics of this most-provocative black leader. the epilogue by alex haley is also incredibly good and must be read. every american should read this, MANDATORY.
