Overwritten and almost self conscious, I still liked it. There was a suprising amount of social commentary mixed in with the "look-at-me-I'm-literary" prose. And, honestly, the identity of the killer was a complete surprise to me. Lastly, I'm eager and inspired to read "Dante's Inferno" (which I only read sections of in high school), which is not a bad thing...
this is definitely my favorite toni morrison novel. f*ck oprah's book club. if 75% of oprah's book club actually liked this book for what it's about and not because oprah told them to I would be so surprised that I would shit a brick, eat it, then shit it again.
This is a good book to read if you're trying to get your head around the Scientific Method. However, if you are not dealing directly with science, it can be a thick and laborious read. Still a good book though!
