Ok, there are things that I really liked about this book and things that weren't my favorite. I really liked the look into the Welsh culture. The way they speak is fascinating to me. Chad says like Yoda I speak sometimes, but I think it's actually like the Welsh! The characters and look into their lives was interesting. As for the narrator, I found him to be somewhat ambiguous. He seems to have a great understanding of many things, yet makes some extremely poor choices through out the book. I realize that he is looking back on his life, but he doesn't seem to think anything was wrong with the choices he made even though he seems to have a good handle on other topics. The father in the story had some good wisdom here and there though. I had a little bit of trouble figuring out what time period it was supposed to be set in until he mentioned Winston Churchill. I suppose their village was just not as modern as bigger cities, both in their technology and ways of thinking. I couldn't believe the amount of fighting amongst the men. It was an interesting juxtaposition to see that next to the whole village's love of music and singing together.
