A great story about family relationships and dynamics, but I loved Edgar and the dogs!! Prepare to cry...
Currently struggling to stay with this book. It's a disappointment so far so i'm hurrying through it to at least find out what happens. Although it's an ebook from the library so there's a chance it may expire before I finish! no great loss..
Though this novel doesn't compare in scope and complexity to Portrait of a Lady, James is as skillful as ever in creating vivid character sketches. I had trouble sympathizing with any of the characters, even Catherine, but I couldn't help admiring her almost glacially slow development into an independent, clear-sighted woman. I read this book primarily in preparation for Reading Lilita in Tehran, and I'm eager to find out what the women make of it.
