The narrator is autistic, but the author is not, so it's a bit like going to an exotic restaurant, but one that's run by local high school kids who went on a short tour one time. I thought it was true-to-life in how cruel everyone was to each other. I'm not sure what the point was of the simplistic atheist rants throughout the book, but the only two interpretations I can come up with (people with faith in God are stupid, or autistics can't perceive the presence of God) are both condescending. The novel is full of tricks and novelties like different typefaces and drawings and logos and things - tricks and novelties may be amusing, but they aren't great literature. High marks mostly because the story was emotionally gripping.
