The author does pose interesting ideas ... though from an application standpoint some of thoughts expressed seem unlikely or impractical in today's workplace. Overall this book is an easy read.
This got rave reviews. I don't know why.
Another book where I was not part of the author's targeted audience, but when has that stopped me before; I only wonder at it's taking too long to get to as it was one of the books I never read when I was younger. It was quite cleverly done, and I can understand why people see connections to Alice in Wonderland and the Wizard of Oz but for me personally, it felt a little...Xanthian...with the kind of creatures and places contained therein.
After reading some of James Clemens later stuff (Godslayer), I decided to pick up some of his earlier works. Stay away from this book if you were impressed with the Godslayer series and haven't read his earlier stuff. The story seems alright enough at first, but within the first few chapters, it falls flat. I couldn't even get to the end of the first book... glad I didn't buy the series.
** spoiler alert ** Ms. Palmer was great on setting the scene and making me feel the middle eastern surroundings and traditions, but I think the dialog could have been worked on more considering the characters intelligence and educational backgrounds. It should have been shown more through their interactions then "told". I felt as if there was too much "author voice" and not enough "character voice". Also there should have been more building time in the relationship to invoke the extent of the love that we are led to believe exsist between these two. Maybe more intensity in the meeting would have helped to make the quickness of their getting togeteher all the more believable. It was all about his needs through most of the book, when it should have been more mutual or more in her favor for her to love so hard and so quickly. With that said it was an entertainng read.
